THE NATIONAL SIGMA BETA CLUB FOUNDATION OFFICIAL STATEMENT – COVID-19 VIRUS
03/20/2020
With the current Global Pandemic involving the (COVID-19) Coronavirus, The National Sigma Beta Club Foundation’s Board of Directors (BOD) is closely monitoring all updates involving reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organizations, and other public health professionals. We are also monitoring the reports of federal, state, and local government officials, as we consider our position on the upcoming 2020 Sigma Beta Club National Leadership Conference and the in-person meeting with our club members. These reports and updates provide critical health information on how we should conduct ourselves with regards to all public gatherings of more than ten (10) individuals, including but not limited to local SBC Chapters, Regional/State SBC meetings, events and activities, and the aforementioned National Leadership Conference scheduled to take place at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee the week of July 15-19, 2020.
As of March 19, 2020, the BOD has decided to cancel the 2020 SBC Leadership Conference and decided that all in-person SBC meetings will be suspending effective indefinitely until further notice. To downgrade the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak, we are advising all Sigma Beta Clubs to practice “Social Distancing” and to transition your in-person meetings to a virtual platform. In light of this, we will conduct a series of webinars in the coming days to support the local Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc Chapters, and Advisors with selecting a virtual platform option that meets the program needs for your Sigma Beta Club and its members.
The National Sigma Beta Club Foundation and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. strongly value the health and safety of all our SBC Members, Advisors and Parents. The young men we are charged to serve are our main priority. As a Foundation, we take great pride in doing our part to support the academic, social and emotional needs of club members across the country.
We want to take this time to thank all our SBC Chapters, Advisors, and Sponsors for the continued support and our Parents for entrusting us with your son(s). We want everyone to take the necessary precautions to protect you and your family during these unforeseen and painful times. We are confident that the decision we have made to ensure the safety of our club members and Advisors, will enable us to return quicker and stronger.
